About Gympie Diggers Football Club: 
Gympie Diggers Soccer Club, formed in 1973 by Peter Teed (who suggested our colours of Sky Blue and Maroon) and Bob Catlin (who came up with our name), is well known as the club that was the driving force behind soccer in Gympie.
In 1974 Diggers entered a Senior Team in the Maryborough competition, and in 1975 won the Maryborough B Grade Competition. Over the next few years Diggers played in the Maryborough Competition and then on to the Sunshine Coast before Gympie & District Soccer Association (now Football Gympie) got off the ground. Golden City, Lions and Columbia Clubs formed a four way local competition that expanded to include other areas such as the South Burnett and Maryborough.
Last year we had over 300 players in teams spanning U6 through Senior Ranks with both male and female teams featuring strongly in the local competition. As usual, many of our players had the opportunity to step up to representative teams at various levels. With such a healthy participation rate, much credit must go to the immediate local governing body, Football Gympie for its diligence and tireless commitment to excellence. The powerhouse supporting the local code in recent years are long-standing Football Gympie President, Mr Trevor Kirk; Football Gympie Secretary Pamela Tindall; and Football Gympie Registrar Gordon Lyon. We thank and respect them highly for their continuing invaluable work.
The Club's players, parents, families, friends and sponsors continue to strongly support the efforts of the game to provide a stable sporting platform upon which many of the region's children develop into well balanced, socially equipped and healthy participants in the community.
At the heart of the Gympie Diggers Football Club is a commitment to achieve a well-rounded ethic of competitive spirit, poise and a sense of enjoyment and fulfilment in the game. It is with this ethic firmly at our core that we invite all comers to our ranks in the belief that through the careful fostering of teamwork and camaraderie, the individual can at moments stand above and excel.
